GOOGLE BOOK SEARCH SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT

The McGraw-Hill Companies along with several other publishers and the Authors Guild sued Google over its Book Search Program in 2005. The parties have now agreed to a comprehensive settlement of the dispute.

The McGraw-Hill Companies supports the settlement agreement and will file claims for those works for which it has copyright and which are subject to the settlement. If you are the author of a McGraw-Hill Companies book that is covered by the settlement agreement, that is currently in print and for which McGraw-Hill holds all rights, you do not need to take action at this time because McGraw-Hill intends to file claims and exercise its rights for your work on its and your behalf. Authors may have rights in addition to rights that The McGraw-Hill Companies may claim including rights in works published by other publishers or in which rights have reverted to the authors. The United States District Court has given preliminary approval to the settlement agreement but objections may be submitted until September 4, 2009.

The McGraw-Hill Companies is not able to respond to individual questions regarding the settlement but encourages you to obtain complete details of the settlement from a special website set up for this purpose: http://www.googlebooksettlement.com. Deadlines and other important information are available on the settlement website.
